Sugar Cookies

Servings: 4-5 dozen


Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups white sugar

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 4x sugar cookie icing recipe (optional)

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.

  2. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Cover with plastic wrap and chill the dough for at least an hour (or overnight).

  4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

  5. Rolls out the dough to between 1/4 and 1/2 inch on a floured surface. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.

  6. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

  7. Bake 6-8 minutes in a preheated oven. The cookies should not have little or no browning color.

  8. Remove the cookies to a wire rack and cool completely before icing.
