Ingredients

  • 1/4 c butter (or shortening)

  • 2 c flour

  • 1 TB baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 TB sugar

  • 3/4 c milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF.

  2. Cut the fat into the dry ingredients with a fork or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles course cornmeal. Stir in the milk slowly, adding just enough each time so that the dough rounds up and leaves the sides of the bowl.

  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out until it is 1/2-inch thick. With a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out the biscuits and place them on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10-15 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
